The Bengals’ 30-27 loss to the Steelers on Sunday came down to a handful of mistakes, but two special teams errors and Joe Burrow’s late fumble were the defining moments. Cincinnati had opportunities to win throughout the afternoon, but mistakes in all three phases ultimately cost the Bengals a chance to leave Pittsburgh undefeated.

The special teams mistakes were especially damaging because both directly contributed to Pittsburgh points. Cincinnati was leading 20-17 in the third quarter when Cedric Johnson was flagged for roughing the punter, extending a Steelers drive that otherwise would have ended. Pittsburgh took advantage, driving for a touchdown and reclaiming the lead.
Later, with Cincinnati ahead 27-24, another special teams mistake proved costly. Ke’Shawn Williams muffed a punt, giving Pittsburgh possession at the Bengals’ 14-yard line. The Steelers could not reach the end zone, but Chris Boswell converted a 36-yard field goal to tie the game. Those two mistakes gave Pittsburgh valuable extra opportunities and ultimately helped produce 10 points.
Burrow then had one final chance to change the outcome. After Pittsburgh took a 30-27 lead, Cincinnati moved the ball into Steelers territory with less than a minute remaining. A field goal could have tied the game, while a few more completions might have created an opportunity to win. Instead, Burrow was sacked by Derrick Harmon with 53 seconds left and fumbled. Pittsburgh recovered, allowing the Steelers to run out the clock.
The fumble was particularly painful because Burrow had played well for most of the game. He finished with 282 passing yards and three touchdowns without an interception, repeatedly making big plays when Cincinnati needed them.
In the end, the Bengals didn’t lose because of one mistake. But the roughing-the-punter penalty, muffed punt and Burrow’s late fumble were the critical errors in a game decided by three points. Against a division rival, Cincinnati simply gave Pittsburgh too many opportunities to capitalize.

This Bengals-Steelers preview breaks down the biggest storylines heading into Sunday, including the latest injury news for both teams. Cincinnati could potentially be without defensive tackles B.J. Hill and Jonathan Allen, who both missed practice Thursday. With Dexter Lawrence, Allen and Hill helping transform the Bengals defensive front, their availability could have a major impact against Pittsburgh.
The Bengals will also be without Yoshi, who was placed on injured reserve with a thumb injury. On the Pittsburgh side, Michael Pittman Jr., Rico Dowdle, Joey Porter Jr., Jalen Ramsey and several other Steelers players are dealing with injuries heading into the matchup.
The keys to the game start with stopping the run. Cincinnati held Houston to fewer than 20 rushing yards last week and now faces a Pittsburgh offense that could lean heavily on Jaylen Warren and the short passing game. Cincinnati’s linebackers, Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight Jr., will need to tackle well in space against Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers' checkdown-heavy attack.
The Bengals secondary will also have a major challenge against DK Metcalf and Pittsburgh's receiving corps, while Cincinnati's elite pass rush looks to make life difficult for Rodgers. Boye Mafe, Myles Murphy, Cashius Howell, Dexter Lawrence and the rest of the defensive front have been creating consistent pressure through the first two weeks.
Offensively, Joe Burrow needs to protect the football, get the ball out quickly, lean on Chase Brown and avoid giving T.J. Watt and the Steelers' pass rush opportunities to change the game. Evan McPherson will also be important in what could be a low-scoring, physical AFC North battle.

With New York Giants quarterback Jackson Dart officially ruled out for the rest of the 2026 NFL regular season, could the Giants call Bengals executive Duke Tobin about Joe Flacco? John Harbaugh has confirmed New York will be adding another quarterback, and Flacco’s decade-long history with Harbaugh in Baltimore makes him an obvious name to watch.
But would the Bengals actually trade Joe Flacco?
In this episode of Chatterbox Bengals, we break down why Cincinnati should be extremely hesitant to move Flacco — even if the Giants offered a first-round pick. The Bengals have legitimate Super Bowl aspirations in 2026, and having a veteran backup quarterback capable of keeping the team competitive if Joe Burrow misses time could be invaluable.
We also discuss the latest Cincinnati Bengals injury news surrounding Andrei “Yoshi” Iosivas. Iosivas suffered a torn ligament in his thumb and is expected to miss approximately four to six weeks after being placed on injured reserve. Who replaces Yoshi in the Bengals offense?
Dohnte Myers is one player who could see a much bigger role after an impressive start to the season. We also break down opportunities for Ke'Shawn Williams, Colbie Young, Mike Gesicki, Erick All Jr., Tanner Hudson and Noah Thomas.
Plus, we preview the Bengals vs. Pittsburgh Steelers matchup and discuss how Cincinnati can replace Yoshi’s production both as a receiver and as a blocker.

Joe Burrow’s mysterious rib injury is the biggest storyline surrounding the Cincinnati Bengals heading into Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. After entering the Week 2 matchup against the Houston Texans with “back tightness,” Burrow was later heard telling Will Anderson Jr. that the Texans had “popped” his rib back into place. The Bengals quarterback subsequently acknowledged that the rib had been out before getting knocked back into place during the game.

That raises plenty of questions heading into the Steelers matchup. When did Burrow’s rib issue begin? Was the original “back tightness” designation connected to the rib? Could the Bengals list Burrow with a rib injury this week? And will the issue affect his practice availability or performance against Pittsburgh?
Despite the injury situation, Burrow played effectively against Houston, helping Cincinnati earn a 20-6 victory against one of the NFL’s most difficult defensive fronts. The Bengals now face another major test against T.J. Watt and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The other major topic is Cincinnati’s defensive line and pass rush. ESPN’s Ben Baby believes the Bengals’ ability to consistently pressure opposing quarterbacks is real rather than a small-sample-size fluke. Cincinnati currently ranks among the NFL leaders in pressure rate and quarterback hit rate, with the defensive front generating production from multiple players.
Boye Mafe, Cashius Howell, Dexter Lawrence, Jonathan Allen, Cedric Johnson, Myles Murphy and Kris Jenkins Jr. have all made an impact early in the season. Howell’s seven pressures also have him tied for the most among NFL rookies.
Can the Bengals’ revamped defensive front continue creating pressure against Aaron Rodgers and Pittsburgh? And what will the latest Joe Burrow injury report reveal? Those questions headline the latest Cincinnati Bengals news and analysis heading into Week 3.

Andrei Iosivas is officially heading to injured reserve after suffering a torn ligament in his thumb, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor announced Wednesday. Iosivas underwent surgery Wednesday morning and will miss at least the next four games as he begins his recovery. Taylor also made it clear that the injury is not considered season-ending, although Iosivas is expected to miss more than the minimum four-game IR stint.

The injury reportedly happened during Cincinnati’s Week 2 victory over the Houston Texans. Iosivas played in the game and finished with one catch for seven yards, but the severity of the thumb injury became clear after the game. Through Cincinnati’s first two games, he has three receptions for 19 yards.Â
This is an unfortunate setback for Iosivas, especially because he entered the season as Cincinnati’s third wide receiver and is currently in the final year of his rookie contract. Last season, he caught 33 passes for 435 yards and two touchdowns, establishing himself as a useful piece of the Bengals’ offense.
Now, Cincinnati will have to adjust its receiver rotation. With Iosivas unavailable, players such as Colbie Young and Dohnte Meyers could see increased opportunities. Young is a rookie who has already made an appearance this season, while Meyers impressed during the preseason and has shown the ability to make plays when given opportunities.Â
For the Bengals, the good news is that Taylor does not believe this injury will end Iosivas’ season. The immediate concern is simply getting him through the surgery and rehabilitation process and back on the field when he is ready.
Cincinnati is currently 2–0 and preparing for its first AFC North matchup of the season against Pittsburgh. Losing a receiver who has been part of the regular rotation is another challenge for an offense that will now have to find ways to replace his snaps and production while he recovers.

The Bengals generated 41 total pressures, their highest single-game total under Zac Taylor. More importantly, the pressure is coming from waves of defensive linemen rather than relying on one or two players. Dexter Lawrence has already made a massive impact, while Jonathan Allen, Boye Mafe, Cedric Johnson, Chris Jenkins, and others are creating consistent chaos in the backfield.
That depth is allowing Al Golden to rotate his defensive linemen, keep players fresh, and constantly attack opposing quarterbacks. The result? A Bengals defense that looks dramatically different through two games.
We break down Dexter Lawrence’s impact beyond the box score, including how often opposing offenses are forced to account for him and how that creates opportunities for everyone else. We also discuss Dax Hill, DJ Turner, Demetrius Knight, Chris Jenkins, and the continued development of this young Bengals defense.
But there is one major concern on the other side of the ball: Orlando Brown Jr.
Brown struggled against Houston’s elite defensive front, and the Bengals now have to turn around and face T.J. Watt and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Is it time to start seriously worrying about Cincinnati’s left tackle situation and Joe Burrow’s protection?
Plus, we discuss Evan McPherson’s impressive start, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Bengals’ offensive line, and what Cincinnati needs to fix heading into Week 3 against Pittsburgh.
Topics covered: Bengals defense, Dexter Lawrence, 41 pressures, Orlando Brown Jr., Joe Burrow, Dax Hill, DJ Turner, Jonathan Allen, Chris Jenkins, Evan McPherson, Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Bengals vs. Steelers, Cincinnati Bengals Week 3.
